Wild Game Notes: 3-18-14 at Islanders plus individual Corsi

  • Talk about a slump-buster. Good ole Islanders.
  • Sorry for missing a number of games recently–the thing about working at a small business is that sometimes you have to drop what you’re doing and do job interviews for two solid weeks. The Wild need to start grabbing some more points or it’s going to get too close for comfort coming down the stretch.
  • Yeo mixed up the lines a lot tonight, scratching Haula which pissed a lot of people off. He has been very productive but he’s still a rookie. He’ll have lots of time to skate when Heatley leaves.
  • Coyle and Nino on the same line tonight, they looked pretty good. Hard to tell on a night like tonight though. Let’s see if they stay on a line.
  • Extraskater.com now has win expectancy charts for all games. I’ll start putting them in these notes. I have been hoping someone would start to do them in hockey for a long time. They’ve had them in baseball for years and they’re pretty cool. Check it out…

  1. Petes says:

According to ES, the Wild were outplayed last night in terms of Corsi and Fenwick. What’s your take on that? Were the Wild extremely lucky or did they play better than the advanced stats suggest?

    • Bob Spencer says:

Score effects–after the Wild got the quick lead they didn’t need to press possession. The charts I show are even-strength but a lot of times we’ll look at 5v5 close (1-goal game in first two periods or tie game in 3rd.) The shot stats are a little deceiving from this game because it was a blowout.
