Sort of a stream of consciousness for tonight’s tilt against Chicago, featuring the triumphant return of Zach Parise…

  • J.P. Parise does the ‘Let’s play hockey!’ chant…no coincidence there
  • So some of the guys do this thing where they get in a circle and juggle a soccer ball before the game, and I kind of love that they do, and they show it on tv sometimes. Cool pregame ritual, gets them loosened up, focused, etc.
  • Brodziak-Cooke-Fontaine doing a halfway effective job forechecking against the Toews line, like to see that.
  • Wild doing a good job moving the puck early in this game, couple of good redirect attempts in the first couple minutes
  • Great goal by Pominville, Heatley makes a gutsy pass, surprised he got it through. Granlund, Heatley, and Pominville all touched that puck on the rush
  • Granlund missed a goal by just that much on the 5-on-3 due to a bouncing puck. Wild moved the puck a lot with the two man advantage but didn’t really create great opportunities. They certainly won’t get another opportunity like that in this game
  • Welly welly welly, Mister Matt Cooke with the goal. Not what you’d call a high-percentage shooter there but he puts this one through the five hole
  • Kyle Brodziak gets an assist on the Cooke goal but not a plus rating. He passed and went for a line change…PLUS MINUS IS STUUUPIDDD
  • Zucker and Brodzy on the PK? Muy interesante…
  • Hang on…they’re announcing the MN state debate champions during the hockey game? I’ve never seen such a thing–I was on the debate team in h.s. but I never challenged for the championship >_>
  • Kuemper now wearing Backstrom’s backup mask! Mister Darcy took a puck off his cage, trainer had to take it back to the training room. Hopefully he gets it fixed up, I imagine it would be weird to wear someone else’s gear and try to have the same vision
  • Fontaine sure does have a good shot…but I think he’s a little predictable. He had the puck on a 3-on-2, and was patient and picked his spot but you felt like you knew he was not going to pass
  • Pominville trips over the blue line, gives Hossa a clean breakaway…Suter gets on his horse to break up the play. Great hustle by Suter and a good backcheck
  • Marco Scandella with a near miss on a highlight reel shot, walked the blue line then snapped a HARD wrist shot right to the top shelf corner where the goalie had just vacated. He’s really turning some heads this year…
  • Explaining why the Wild are 4-2-0 when being outshot in their last few games, announcer “It’s no secret the rope a dope works.” They call that Toronto Maple Leaf syndrome
  • Impressive win for the Wild, all credit to them for pressing play, though I thought Chicago looked sluggish and a little lethargic for much of the game.
  • How about Mister Darcy! 33 of 34 shots turned away, that close to a shutout. Kid’s got a very bright future
